Why I’ve become a Soccer Fan Boy

As a member of the online soccer community, a certified coach, a certified referee, a blog author, a player and an avid supporter of Manchester United and the Canadian National team I like to think I am above things such as “CR9 is so totally awesome!”.

That is a lie. The tail end of this season is turning me into a complete soccer fan boy.

This end to a European season has got to be the best in years. We have two teams tied on points at the top of La Liga, three teams within four points of each other at the top of the Premier League, three teams within four points at the top of Serie A, three teams within three points at the top of the Bundesliga, and six teams within five points at the top of Ligue Un. It’s crazy these title races are some of the closests we’ve ever seen.

Then we move onto the Champions League. We have the mouth-watering tie of Barcelona vs. Arsenal which promises to give us two of the most attacking, exciting football matches that this planet has ever seen. We just watched ties between Milan and Manchester United, Fiorentina and Bayern Munich which produced nine and eight goals respectively.

When I watch the Premier League now instead of cheering against Arsenal like a good Manchester United supporter should I find myself amazed at some of the intricate passing, and incredible skill they play with. On the flip side of the equation we are also seeing some brilliant football from United as well, who have a certain Wayne Rooney who is on the best form any English player has had in a decade.

Of course the best thing about being a soccer fan right now is that we are privileged enough to see one of the greatest players of all time in Lionel Messi. Two straight hattricks in the league, eight goals in his last three matches. The man is a genius – just watch and enjoy
